The pastel gator board has arrived!!! I may actually be able to get my Easter Picture finished before Easter!! I am very excited. I have the new slate board up and the drawing transferred. Now to start filling in with color, shadows, and highlights. I hope I can create something beautiful for God! I want to give it to the church if it turns out alright. In the meantime, while I have been waiting, I decided to organize my collection of pastels. I have various sets, which include Terry Ludwig, Rembrandt, Blue Earth, Gallery, and NuPastel. I have kept them in the original boxes they came in for the most part, but that was beginning to be too many different containers and my colors were not organized together with the color wheel. All of the professionals recommend that you always take them out of the new boxes and put them in with your other main sets. This is so hard for me to do. (I always did LOVE a brand new box of unused crayons! haha). But I finally bit the bullet and did just that. There are two highly recommended ways in which to organize your box. Richard McKinley and Maggie Price are two of the best when it comes to pastels. I have written about Maggie Price before and she is one of my very favorites! In this case though, I had to go with Richard McKinley's method. Both are based on the same principals (Color Wheel, Dark to Light, follow the value scale), but I visually follow Richard's layout better. The one on the left if Richard McKinley's style and the one on the right is Maggie's style. The picture underneath is MY box! :-))) Brian made the box for me while I was at church this past Sunday. I was very happy when I saw it. :-) In preparing for the Easter Season, I want to do a pastel that honors God and gives some thanks for providing me with this life changing "hobby". This is the preliminary sketch: Last Supper, Crucifiction and Resurrection! It will be on shale (color) Richeson Gator Pastel Foam Board, 16 x 20. I am praying that I will be able to put on paper what I envision in my head and heart. Also, I would like to finish it before Easter Sunday, but I do not know if that is possible. So much I would love to do with my art, but UHG!, finding the time. haha I will keep you updated! This weekend I was able to add some updates to my art room!! I had ordered a storage cart and shelf from www.jerrysartarama.com called "Dryden Storage". Brian put the floor model together for me and I put the shelf together and hung it up. The will hold MANY canvas', panel board, etc. It will also hold my board that holds my saws that I am painting. It frees up the easel space so that I can keep painting while things have time to completely dry.
The other really awesome addition is the hanging landscaping timbers. They are old and weathered which gives them a very rustic look. I have some colored twine strung between the eyelets and some old fashioned clothes pins hang on them. I will be able to hang pastel painting, sketches, pictures and other items from these. A co-worker named Paul Lennon hung the timbers for me. He did a great job and is a wonderful person! He is a great role-model for young men and women (teens) at the high school and just a really nice, good man. If you ever get the chance to meet him, you will be blessed. As you can see, my dog-Barney-thinks the floor storage is pretty cool also! haha If you scroll down, you will see a picture that I completed this past weekend. It is a version of a style that a great painter named Wilson Bickford does. If you get a chance, check out his paintings. He has been an inspiration, virtual teacher, and supporter to my growth as a painter. If this painting should sell, 100% of the money made from it will be forwarded to a need that God will put on my heart. I will be listening for his guidance and keeping my eyes open for the direction that the money should flow. Typically, 10% of any painting that I sell goes to some place that God leads me to sow it. In this case though, 100% will be paid forward. The Painting ( is Oil on Canvas and measures 8 x 16. It is unframed, but will frame it to sell. Price: $60.00 with frame. The last picture is a scene that I am working on for a friend (Kelli Daniel). It is not near done. The cabin is only roughed in as a dark under-painting and there will be lots more trees, rapids, rocks, and highlights. The final touch will be the names of her and her kids on a wood sign on an old tree stump/post. I will keep updating pictures as I continue to work on it. Well, I suppose that about wraps up what has currently been going on in my "art world"!! I hope you have enjoyed the pictures. If you have not taken the survey on my home page, please take a second to do that. It gives me some feedback about the demographics of who is visiting. It does not track your name or information, you do not have to leave an e-mail address, or any other personal information. Comments are not required, but they are good feedback. I hope everyone has a good week and as always, do something nice for someone. It doesn't matter if it is a stranger or someone you know. Doing something special for someone is part of sharing God's love. :-) |
